The Joint Declarations signed today in the fields of culture and education formally mark the launch of a policy dialogue between the European Commission and the United Mexican States.
This initiative partnership builds on rich and diversified co-operation in education already developed through EU-funded programmes, such as Erasmus Mundus. The objective of the policy dialogue is to create a mechanism for the exchange of information and experiences that is beneficial for both sides.
On his trip to Brazil in May, Commissioner Figel' signed similar declarations with his counterparts in the Government of Brazil. This came as a follow-up to the Joint Action Plan adopted at the 2nd EU-Brazil Summit in December 2008 (Rio de Janeiro), which provides for the launch of a sectoral policy dialogue in the fields of education and culture.
