OECD recommendation for Israel & Switzerland to chose education as key priority for reform
27 januari 2010

Switzerlands lead in formal qualifications over the other OECD countries has slipped, although it was high. A report recommends significantsly increasing government sponsored student loans to facilitate acces to tertiairy education, as well as increase public spending for childcare faciilties and new criteria for support to day nurseries, the number of shich are still inadequate.

Two new report of the OECD identify employment and social inclusion as vital to Isreals future development, as one of five Isrealies lives in poverty, which is highest over half of Arab Israelis and 60% of Haredim, or Ultra-Orthodox Jews (which shows light upon the high right extremism among the Haredim). The reports were drawn up and published in the context of ongoing negotiations for Israel to become a member of the OECD.
On the education front, the OECD urges action to reduce the inequalities faced by Arab Israelis. It also calls for efforts to encourage the Haredim to strengthen their vocational skills as part of a drive for a more self-sufficient -- and less poverty-ridden -- balance between religious worship and work.
