Besides scientific co-ordinator Professor Sally Power from Cardiff University (UK), eleven scholars and researchers from eight European countries will make up the core group of NESET, which will be supported by a wider group of affiliated experts from across the world.

Equality and inclusion in and through education and training will be a central concern in all of the network's activities. NESET will provide knowledge and evidence that can support a broad range of policy development activities such as, for example, the preparation of the Commission's 2012 Communication "Equity in Education and Training to support European Inclusive Growth".

NESET succeeds the NESSE network of experts which concluded its work in February.
