The BBC-GNE Young Writers will organize the Public Speaking Awards (BBC Awards 2010), in cooperation with the Genootschap Nederland-Engeland (GNE). To provide young people, with the support of their teachers, an excellent control and active use of the English language, the BBC Awards are giving them an opportunity to express their opinion to a young crowd, who just as them are confronted with questions about their own life and hope for their future.
The topics of the BBC Young Writers and Public Speaking Awards 2010 are:
•Social networking: Keeping in touch or losing touch with reality? •How has the internet changed your world? •How have changes in the media landscape changed the world of entertainment? •Real Cities. How can you ensure you see the ‘Real’ side of a city when travelling? •Travel: Broadening the mind or destroying the planet?
Speakers may choose as an alternative for the subject of the international final:
•Speculation on our future
The two BBC Awards, for writing and public speaking ( for younger people of 16 to 20 years) concentrate on the development of effective skills in the English language. Participating will raise the communicative capabilities of these young people in English. This helps them to gain more confidence, better express themselves and will be of important value in their further development
Finals take place in the Aula van de Universiteit van Amsterdam (Lutherse Kerk) hoek Singel en Spui on Saturday 10 April 2010 14.00 hour.
