(from 2005) Terminology used to denote educational institutions is constantly changing. For a more ready insight into their activity as cooperation between them intensifies in Europe, Eurydice has just updated the second volume of its European Glossary on Education first published in 2000. This new edition clarifies 670 national terms in their original language, describing the various types of educational institution, at all levels of education, including adult education and special needs provision. It covers 30 countries in the Eurydice Network.

In the first part, terms are set out in alphabetical order in their language of origin with an explanatory note describing the main features of the provision of particular institutions (age and admission requirements, types and lengths of programme on offer), and the qualifications they award as well as their status and methods of funding.

The second part contains national summary tables of all terms arranged by educational level.
