The idea of governance is spreading its potential from the start of 2000. Although critised as a grill of popularity, the idea is to develop the boarding capacity of especially organisations in the semi-public field, in relation to their environment and in conscious adaption of its different roles like boarding, directing or supervising. In order to avoid groupthink, financial instabibility, a weak organisation and/or identity.
Independent schools are one of the best examples of self governing schools. Although in many cases the public rules already intervene in the possibilities of schools to govern their schools to the best they can imagine. Another challenger of traditional schools are commercial company's running schools, like Edison Schools (from USA), GEMS (from Arab Emirates, runs 12 UK schools), and Kunskapsskolan (runs 30 state-funded schools in Sweden) and VT Group (UK, more then 50 schools in the UK). While in the Netherlands, Spain & Belgium more then 50% of the schools are independent (state funded) and have similar to better results then public schools.
The discussion about self governing schools or public held schools comes down on whether its supporting or diminishing segregation. Research shows that their are possibilities to address this, but are still not put in practice.
