The general conclusion that can be drawn from this research of R. Jariene & R. Razmantiene is that there is a rather strong relationship between pupils’ socio-economic background and their achievements in reading and writing skills. A linear regression analysis of the variables of the socio-economic construct shows that socio-economic factors can explain about 12 % of the results and achievements of pupil in reading and writing skills.
In order to overcome the influence of a Low SES factor on reading and writing results, ways of compensating for disadvantageous home educational resources and environment should be found. Two solutions could be to adapt the educational process to the specific needs of pupils with Low SES, and to intensify the metacognitive dimension of the teaching process.
